Terms and Conditions
GENERAL
- Members must be 18 to 60 years of age and in good health at the time of obtaining membership. Prior illnesses of members and their family to be covered under the policy must be declared on joining. Please note that any person diagnosed as terminally ill prior to joining will be refused benefits. VISITORS are not permitted to become members. However elderly parents obtaining their permanent leave to stay may join on special condition eligibility*.
- Where members with more than one wife resident in the UK, only one wife will be covered. Other wife/wives may obtain her/their own membership within the terms of the membership. Children may be covered under the natural father’s membership only or if father
- Divorced couples must obtain their own separate memberships. Children will only be covered under the parent’s membership who has custody of the children. If the custody has not been decided the children may be covered by the parent’s membership whom with children lives.
- The membership will cover only the following members of the family:
- Wife/Husband
- Children up to age of 18
- Unmarried daughters up to age of 24
- It is the responsibility of the member to inform the collector or the Secretary of the Society of any changes of circumstances e.g. change of address, name, additional children, marriage, divorce and when death occurs. If a death is related to a person not declared on the application form, the claim may be rejected without satisfactory evidence of relationship and age.
- If a collector is unable to collect payment due to change of address, that is not been reported and no reasonable contact has been made for maximum of 1 year, the membership will automatically cease and no benefits will be paid.
FEES
- Membership joining fee for NEW members whose parent(s) are already members is FREE.
- Membership joining fee for NEW members whose parent(s) are NOT members is £100.
- Elderly parents may join if between 60 and 65 at a fee of £600. Anyone between the ages of 66 and 70 may join at a fee of £1600. Membership for ages beyond 70 will be at increased joining fee. This is subject to good health and at discretion of the Society committee.
- A full year advance contribution set by the Society must be paid with the joining fee at the time of joining.
- Contributions will be collected annually at a fee agreed by the committee. Which is subject to review. Please be aware additional collections may be made if more than 10 deaths occur in the year. Normal collection will be carried out in January of each year unless otherwise agreed by your collector.
- Contributions may be collected or paid through standing order or bank transfer. Cash payments must be paid on time. Please ask your collector the methods of payment. You must pay contributions within 14 days of notification unless otherwise agreed with the collector. But non-payments for more than 30 days after notification may result in cancellation of the membership.
- Joining fee must be paid on submission of an application form. A membership card will be issued with a unique membership number when your application has been processed and approved by the Secretary. If the application is not accepted the joining fee will be refunded in full.
- The membership fee and contributions are subject to change from time to time and are NOT refundable.
- From January 2022 contribution fee is £120 cash per year per membership or £10 per month if paid by standing order. Members may also pay by two 6 monthly payments of £60 if agreed with the collector.
- Those members who would like to pay by standing order please ask your collector for bank details.
BENEFITS
- The Society will pay a lump sum of £5000 to the next of kin or nominated person of the deceased who is covered under the terms of the membership. The deceased must be age 6 or over and the death must have occurred in the UK and burial taken place in the UK. No additional payment will be paid.
- The Society will pay a lump sum of £5000 to the next of kin or nominated person of the deceased who is covered under the terms of the membership if the death occurred in the UK but the body is transported abroad.
- The Society will pay the full funeral cost for the death of a new born child to 6 years who is covered under the rules of the membership on presentation of the bill. The death must have occurred in the UK. An additional £800 will be paid to help with other arrangements related to the funeral.
- There is No Benefit payable for a stillborn Child.
- The Society will pay a lump sum of £3000 to the next of kin or nominated person of the deceased where death of a member or family covered under the membership occurs abroad and burial is carried out at place of death.
- If death occurs of any member or their family covered under the membership whilst on holiday other than Pakistan a payment of the cost up to the maximum amount (£5000) maybe paid to bring back the body to UK. Please note evidence may be required to prove that the deceased was on holiday.
- The Society will pay a lump sum of £3000 to the next of kin or nominated person of the deceased where death occurs during their visit to Saudi Arabia for purpose of Hajj or Umrah and burial is carried out at the place of death.
- All claims must be made through your collector or Secretary of the Society. Claims can also be made through the claim form on www.muslimfuneralsociety.co.uk
- Once a payment has been made the Society is not responsible for late funeral payments or third party claims such as other insurance and DWP nor will the Society get involved with HMRC. If there are disputes as to who should be paid the benefits the Society may pay the Funeral Director directly.
- The benefits are based on local costs and the Society is not responsible for excessive costs incurred by the members from outside South Yorkshire.
- Anyone joining with pre-existing medical condition will be assessed on individual basis. For severe cases you will not be able to claim for first year.
TERMINATION
- The member may terminate their membership at anytime by either notification verbally to their collector or in writing to the Society.
- The Society may cancel a membership if:
- The member fails to pay full contributions within the specified time.
- The member misses payments or make regular late payments without a valid reason.
- The member is found to defraud claims or membership details on the Application Form.
- Those members who voluntarily terminate their membership or were terminated by the Society may only re-join on the Society’s discretion. Each application will be considered on individual circumstances within the rules of the terms and conditions. Re-joining fee will be equivalent to the amount missed since leaving or a fee up to £1500 if they cannot proof when they left.
